The Australian Rover Plasma Challenge 2020 had one ultimate goal; 500 donations in 3 months This year, the lifeblood team designed the challenge to encourage more donors to give plasma donating a go. Plasma is a part of whole blood which is made up of special proteins, nutrients and hormones that can be used in a variety of medical treatments ranging from severe burns to immune deficiencies. The beginning It felt like a challenge to mobilize Rovers Scouts across the nation to roll up their sleeves and donate plasma, but as a testament to the passion and service of Rover Scouts Australia-wide, the live tallies got off to a roaring start in the first few weeks of August. Rover Scouts Saving Lives! As the challenge powered on through September and into the final month of October, across the country Rover Scouts battled it out for first place on the state, region and unit leaderboards! A special mention must be made to the loyal supporters of the challenge, who kicked into gear by helping to book group donations, transporting people to and from the centres and cheering our donors on every step of the way. With a big smile and a virtual high-five to all involved, we’re so glad to say that in the final week of October, we hit 500 donations! To capture the final results in a few quick statistics, the challenge involved • 272 total donors, • 50 of which were new donors. In terms of age, 25% of donors were over 30 showing the wonderful support of ex-Rovers, Rover Advisor’s, family and friends throughout the challenge. Each and every donor and supporter should be incredibly proud of drastically exceeding our plasma challenge goal, with the final tally hitting 533. That equates to 1599 lives saved. You are all bloody lifesavers!
